Joe Burrow Inks Historic Contract Extension with Cincinnati Bengals

Five-Year, $275 Million Deal Sets New NFL Record

The Cincinnati Bengals and quarterback Joe Burrow have finalized a five-year contract extension worth $275 million, making Burrow the highest-paid player in NFL history.

The deal, which will keep Burrow in Cincinnati through the 2029 season, includes $125 million in full guarantees at signing and $150 million in fully guaranteed salary. It also includes a $20 million signing bonus and annual salaries of $31 million, $32 million, $33 million, $34 million, and $35 million.

Burrow's contract surpasses the previous record-setting deal for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, which was worth $231 million over 10 years. Burrow's $55 million average annual salary also sets a new NFL record.

"We are thrilled to have Joe under contract for the next five years," Bengals president Mike Brown said in a statement. "He is a special talent and a leader for our team. We believe in his ability to take us to the next level and win championships."

Burrow, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has quickly emerged as one of the league's top quarterbacks. In 2021, he led the Bengals to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1988. Burrow threw for 4,611 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions in 2021 while completing 70.4% of his passes.

Burrow's contract extension is a significant move for the Bengals, who are looking to build on their recent success and contend for the Super Bowl. The deal also shows the Bengals' commitment to building around Burrow for the long term.
